i'm not a huge fan of gift certificates because i think they are completely uncreative and the receiver always knows how much you spent (duh). i am getting one gift certificate for my aunt and uncle this year, however, and found out that restaurant.com gives discounts on $25 gift certificates. check it out.also, a lot of local radio stations and newspapers will give discounts to local restaurants. check out your local station to see what they have to offer.
(for my aunt and uncle i'm including a "free babysitting" gift certificate and it will be hidden in an adorable pine birdhouse i found. just to make it feel less boring.)
