There's a fright on in Brighton: Thousands of zombies take to the streets in annual walk of the living dead

By GARETH FINIGHAN

Getting into the spirit: Thousands of revellers took part in the parade, which has grown in popularity every year since it began in 2007

A seaside resort was invaded by the walking dead today when 3,000 people dressed as zombies stalked its streets.
The Beach Of The Dead Brighton Zombie Walk, now in its fifth year, saw men, women and children don imaginative costumes and elaborate make-up, creating a gruesome sight for onlookers.
Fake blood and gore could be seen dripping from many as moans and groans filled the air.

Creepy: A passing motorist got the fright of their life when this zombie tried to hitch a lift

Event organiser Kate Amer said the first zombie walk in 2007, attracted just 40 people but 200 signed up the following year.
She said: 'In America and Canada they do these massive zombie walks that get 20,000 people doing it.

Looking a little pasty: This pair looked as though they hadn't seen daylight in months, despite being in one of the UK's sunniest resorts

The ghoul in green: Zombies mingled with passers-by along Brighton's seafront

Terrifying spectacles: This zombie was a real eyesore

'I always wanted to do something a bit more special for Halloween and when I moved to Brighton I thought Brighton's the place to do it.'
Miss Amer, 23, who works as an administrator, said its success was largely due to it being publicised through social media such as Facebook and Twitter.
The parade, which began next to the Royal Pavilion at Victoria Gardens at 3pm, saw the zombies shuffle through the city and along the seafront before ending along Madeira Drive.

Living dead: The event, now in its fifth year, attracted participants of all ages

Nightmare vision: But while participants did their best to look gruesome, the event was all in good fun
